Have fun fishing for your supper in any one of the seven small ponds on the property. We do what we can to keep them stocked with rainbow trout, catfish, or sunfish, while the herons, turtles, and even otters enjoy most of the catch! Let your child fight a lively trout for a while and create a lifelong memory of hauling in that first fish. Cleaning the fish is a great hand-on family experience, and nothing tastes better to a scout than fresh trout grilled over an open fire.
While we do have some primitive fishing equipment you can borrow, best to bring your own. Bread works for bait, or dig worms in the manure pile.
Worn out from the hard work of fishing? Refresh yourself with a dip in the cool (some say COLD) mountain waters. Don't think Hollywood hotel pool or sandy beach. Discover why "wild swimming" is a new worldwide craze. We're talking hard core immersion into a natural ecosystem in a remarkably beautiful setting -- a splendid way to start any day, and an outward bound experience for the novice. (Join the Willet Ponds Polar Bear Club with a morning dip in the winter -- after cutting a hole in the ice!) Two ponds have swimming docks that allow for entry and exit into the 6-8' deep waters without ever needing to touch the mucky pond bottom. Swim at your own risk of getting addicted to these healing waters...
